THE WILD FRONTIER is from Sydney’s inner-west, forming in 2001 out of the high school friendship of David Mackie and Christopher Mayes. In 2006 THE WILD FRONTIER grew into a five-piece to include: Stephen Mansfield, Leon Spencer and Philippa Vaughan. Drawing on influences such as Nick Cave, The Byrds, and Lambchop, THE WILD FRONTIER has developed a sound likened to Beach House, Elvis Perkins and Arcade Fire. Their new album UNTIL THE DAY BREATHES demonstrates the diversity and subtly of the band’s songwriting. With greater use of Philippa Vaughan’s powerful yet pure vocal performances UNTIL THE DAY BREATHES is a rich and well-crafted album that will reward the attentive listener with new shades and nuances emerging with each listen. THE WILD FRONTIER has created an album that spans across genres such as the dream-pop of FOR YOU, the apocalyptic-rock of THE HEAVENS ARE ON FIRE, and the June Carter and Johnny Cash inspired country duet MY FRIEND CALLED TOM.
