Stewy Meira is a musician and songwriter based on the NSW Central Coast, who has performed as a singer/guitarist in several bands. Whilst travelling the world in 1992, Stewy ended up in Bern, Switzerland. It was here he wrote his first song “Ashley” at a youth hostel after a close friend had passed away from a heart attack at age 16. A year later he was fronting a Metallica covers band in Liechtenstein, Swiss Europe, at 23 years of age. He went on to sing in other original bands that didn’t have English speaking singers. Stewy’s first big gig was performed at National Day celebrations in Liechtenstein, Vaduz. Concerts fronted five different bands and solo acoustic gigs. In 1996 Stewy was back in Australia and formed “Gybralta”, a hard rock band playing gigs around the Sydney pub circuit, private venues and open-air events. In 1998 Stewy formed another band of like-minded muso’s in Bondi, “The typhoon Gypsies” – a blues/rock/Led Zep mash-up of artistic talent. After an extended break from playing in bands, in 2014 Stewy was back on the scene where he was the singer/guitarist in an acoustic rock band called “Pirates of Brooklyn”. In 2016 Stewy formed the idea of “Thundastar” – an acoustic live jam band and went solo in acoustic bands with other muso’s. In 2019 “Thundastar” was formed in Bondi as a blueprint for future recordings with local musicians. After the craziness of lockdowns and personal struggles, Stewy recorded his first live studio recording at Damien Gerrard Studios in April 2023. Recording “Escape Velocity” is a dream come true for Stewy, an album of songs that come from the heart and soul of his musical talent.
