Timbre was first formed by Craig Brumby and Joel Kettleton in 2001. When deciding on a name for themselves, Craig and Joel wanted a name that kept them in touch with their acoustic roots. The guys put their heads together and decided to come up with something a litlle different, Timbre. But not pronounced as it would normally be, they pronounce themselves TIMBER, yes, timber. Liking the definition of Timbre that was taken from a little Macquarie Dictionary - Timbre, 'The definition of an original sound irrelevant to pitch and volume'. This correct pronunciation was not enough though, so they pronounce it TIMBER, to keep with their acoustic ties. Since that time they have had lots of success in the local Hobart music scene including supporting ARIA winner Monique Brumby on several occasions. It has taken, however, until 2006 for Craig and Joel to release a CD. With the adoption of Matt Bowditch (Bass) and Dan Leale (Drums), Timbre finally managed to release their debut EP in March.
