Formed in 2007 and based in Sydney, Toadhall is a four-piece rock outfit blending dark textures, unabashed lyricism and vocals by turn subtle and potent. With influences ranging from Elliott Smith and Jeff Buckley to A Perfect Circle and Crowded House, Toadhall strive for sensitivity and contrast in their music: intense guitar riffs and frenetic rhythms are balanced with moments of delicacy. Despite growing up in the same country town, the members of Toadhall hail from diverse musical backgrounds. Apart from being an accomplished drummer, Rhys (vocals, guitar) performs a solo pseudo-cabaret act, Lieutenant Grudge, in which he fuses parody of Top Forty genres with incisive, tongue-in-cheek lyrics. Jeck (guitar) has studied sound design and composition at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, and forms one half of electro-acoustic duo Lady Lazarus. Sulls (bass) also lends his skills to established local band The Maladies, who can be seen performing regularly at popular Sydney venues.
