A lonely boy was given a Valencia on his thirteenth birthday. His teenage years led him through The Red Hot Chili Peppers, then Black Sabbath, then Led Zeppelin, then the Beatles, then Radiohead, then Bloc Party, then a confusing phase of metal music, then the Clash, then the Minutemen, and then spat him out at 17 years of age in the firm grasp of Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen and Neil Young. He now firmly believes in the minimal beauty of folk music.
