Topaz Lyon is the solo project of Australian indie-folk singer-songwriter, Alaia Harvie. With poetic lyrics, warm vocals and acoustic and electric guitar, she brings you in close and takes you on a journey. In the vein of artists such as Cat Power, or Bon Iver, with some wandering Dylan-esque story-telling. In her previous band, Ichabod’s Crane, Alaia (‘a-lay-ah’) performed at Peat’s Ridge Music Festival (Syd), Adelaide Fringe Festival, Ladyfest (Bris), Brisbane Powerhouse, along the NSW east coast and at various other Brisbane and Melbourne venues. With Ichabod’s Crane, she released an EP in 2007, The Devil and The Deity; the album Honeydew, in 2010; and also appeared on Portuguese artist, The Partisan Seed’s song, Ofelia again. After a long hiatus from music, she then released the album, Luminescent, as Topaz Lyon, in 2022. Currently in process of recording new material and based back near her childhood home of Mullumbimby, in northern NSW, her new work incorporates lyricism and soundscapes which explore inter-generational stories, kinship with nature, interpretation of truth and the collective creation of our present journey. Working with local artist and producer, Kim Myer, her new tracks, due for release in early 2025, have a depth which takes the listener on a unique musical journey.
