Twenty Seven Winters was originally formed in Melbourne 2013 by songwriter, singer and guitarist Joshua Davidson as a vehicle for his collection of earthy blues songs. Having drawn influence from traditional Australian folk music and American blues and country writers, Joshua decided to expand his music beyond the limits of acoustic guitar and work with other musicians to build up his songs. With the formation of the four piece, Twenty Seven Winters have developed a darker sound to complement the tone of the songs. Hanging notes and pregnant pauses, lumbering drunken rhythms with swells of psychedelic guitar carry the songs along. Transforming from fever dreams of disaster and regret to lost love and livelihood, the songs surrounds the listener as a warm embrace. From whisper to howl Joshua leads the band, Al Murphy on hard, intricate drums, Liz Baker playing waltzing bass and Finn Rockwell grinding dark and compelling melodic riffs, through these songs of cautionary misfortune.
