Cinematic desert blues. This is roots rock and blues, loud and live out of Newtown. Welcome to the latest recording / production project of Ken Campbell. It all began in 2017 with a collaboration firstly with Soren Hillis and Ben Rosen (Juice, Nikka Costa and The Gunnery) for a first release on vinyl and CD containing the tracks “Unforgiven“ and “Heart and Soul". "Unforgiven" was recorded at Megaphon and mixed at the Gunnery in Singapore. The "Heart and Soul" recording sessions saw the addition of Soren’s brother Ben Hillis on bass and the evolution of a great brotherly simpatico in the groove to develop a full repertoire, resulting in gigs at Sydney’s Lazybones and Newcastle’s Stag & Hunter. The tracks were recorded at the legendary Sydney studio Megaphon with the great Shane Fahey of Scattered Order fame as engineer and later mixed at Free Energy Device studios Newtown and mastered at 301 Being somewhat dismayed at the organisation needed and expense involved in quality analogue recording, Ken began collecting vintage gear and searching for appropriate premises to house a moderate but quality analogue facility to enable time in the process of production for Valvewire without breaking the bank. This has come to fruition with this first release from a private home facility with The Crossing. The song was recorded/produced and mixed at the this new studio set up and again mastered at 301 with the great Steve Smart. New collaborators on this and upcoming recording projects for Valvewire are Greg Royal (bass) and Darren Ryan (drums) who entered the fray after the Hillis brothers returned to their home town Newcastle. Valvewire has an album well under way, one that looks to be completed later in the year. Expect the totally unexpected. That's the Valvewire way.
