My dad played in various bands in Albany, WA, on Mineng, Noongar Country, and my mum loved to listen to jazz, so I grew up with a lot of music. At 5 years of age, I played my first instrument, the cornet. Once at school, I sang the lead in school musicals, played the clarinet at Eisteddfods and concerts, played the treble recorder in a baroque recorder consort and sang in trios and choirs. In my adult years, after raising children, I’ve sang and played guitar and flute at various local events including church services, folk and open mike nights. About 5 years ago while living on Wardandi Country I wrote and illustrated a children’s book in the local Aboriginal dialect. Once I had completed the book, I wrote a melody and won a grant to record a song to accompany the book – Djerap Wardandi Boodja-k (Birds on Wardandi Country - see my SoundCloud link for recording). After recently moving to Jambinu, Geraldton on Yamatji Country, I enrolled in a Certificate III in Song Writing and Music Production. I was inspired to write and record a torch song 'I Got the Blues' after hearing my instructor play a blues riff. I accompanied my voice with keyboard and flute and my instructor played bass and lead guitar. The artwork was painted by me a couple of years ago and seemed to fit. The song was released late April 2025. I am currently working on a jazz piece ‘Into the Night’ and working towards my first EP. I am also working with nature sounds to record some ambient music for meditation and relaxation.
