Established in 2007 by multimedia artists Maikel Nagle and Damien Laffan, Virasol is an experimental audio project that explores the interrelationship between frequency and interruption – accentuating silence, discord and the abstract properties of noise. Drawing influence from early industrial artists such as Can and Einstuerzende Neubauten, Virasol are concerned with the recording and manipulation of sound, blending elements derived from construction materials and found objects with controlled signal degeneration to create a wide range of unique aural textures. Erratic and immersive, mechanized and relentless, Virasol combine random, algorithmic and generative structures with complex percussive layering, recontextualizing error as music.
