Definition: violist: one who plays the viola. People never seem to know much about the viola so I'll tell you. Strings: CGDA (same strings as the cello but 1 octave higher)(Although, note: for 'Just a Dream' the open strings are tuned to DGDG). Bigger than a violin. Bit more mellow. I called mine Vlad because on orchestral parts the abbreviation for viola is VLA. Yep, super imaginative ain't I. But let me tell you a little about violists. Generally we develop a decent sense of humour after a certain number of years of being teased by violinists / cellists about how (factual or no) we only started to play viola because we weren't good enough at the violin. And jokes like: "How do violas and trampolines differ? Obvious points aside, you take your shoes off to jump on a trampoline." But the viola is a beautiful instrument, and I'd like people to know that. Kids should be started on viola equally as often as they seem to be started on violin.
