Voices of Ascent are Sydney duo Benn DeMole and Catriona Davies. Describing their music as “positive personal political hiphop”, they have a dynamic live set which includes vocals and MCing from both Benn and Cat, saxophone and original beats. Also experienced physical performers and dancers, they also do a fair bit of moving on stage. The duo formed in 2009 whilst in Europe, after touring to Japan and Spain with experimental pop/hiphop band Assemblage Point. Their first release, Safe or Free, was written on a Greek Island in response to the Swine Flu mass indoctrination campaign, recorded in Turkey (with guest Istanbul artists Ali Aydin on Kanoun and Serkan Aydin on Darbuka) and the video clip filmed in New York [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDDblwFAPIg]. Now back in Australia, Darlinghurst-based Voices of Ascent are ready to bust onto the Sydney music scene with their penetrating, informed lyrics, catchy melodies, funky beats and occasional impersonations of whitetrash america
