WAMALA is a Ugandan-Australian artist who is making an impact with his genre defying sound. Drawing inspiration from 90's alternative, R&B, trip hop, grunge, modern folk, gospel, blues, and rock, WAMALA creates music that is both fresh and familiar, with an extraordinary tone of voice and emotive projection. Growing up in a middle-class Melbourne suburb, WAMALA felt like an outsider from an early age. He endured racist and toxic abuse, which took a toll on his mental health over time. Turning to music as a source of solace and safety, he taught himself to play piano and began writing about the struggles of growing up as a young, emotional, mixed-race male in a hyper masculine white Australia. WAMALA's upcoming EP, "Fitter, Better, Healthier," produced by Joshua Moriarty (Miami Horror/Telenova) and co-produced by WAMALA, is a warm and ethereal exploration of mental health, personal growth, and identity.
