Crystal Tangerine represents the next stage of a musical journey in exploration of genre for Wild Wisteria. While the debut album, Enigma Road, had a strong rock-folk orientation, the follow up retains the rock element but moves into territory that reflects the influence of early Bowie and The Beatles and finishes with after five and lounge room jazz. Overall, the album is probably best described as adult contemporary rock. Crystal Tangerine reflects closer collaboration between Malcolm Raedel and Matt Williams in both writing and arrangement. As always the music for Wild Wisteria is grounded in personal experience, exercising poetic licence, where the track titles give an insight into the range of topics and themes developed.
