William Jack is a cellist, guitarist and songwriter from South Australia. Creating passionate lyric songs alongside progressive string compositions, William is known for his multifaceted approach to music making with boundless stylistic and cultural influences. 2022 will mark the release of Will's first collection of instrumental works for solo cello - This Old Cello Box. The album is tailored for listeners of all ages to experience a fresh take on the violoncello. Often regarded for its closeness to the human voice, Will resonates with the historic raw power of the cello without layering or overdubs. The result is a solo LP that remains parallel in delivery and intensity across live performances. An album enriched in traditions, but not encumbered by them. Each track is designed to hit differently with decipherable elements of baroque and rock to Indian and Middle Eastern folk. Will began playing guitar at age 5 and started writing music for rock bands throughout his schooling. After finishing classical cello studies in Vienna, he moved to London and developed a passion for incorporating his jazz guitar background into an unconventional style of cello playing. He has been fortunate to work and record with remarkable UK artists including Tom Rosenthal and Laure Chan.
