Background Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, Edwin was raised in a musical family – his parents and siblings all played musical instruments. Edwin learnt to play drums at the age of 9, piano at 14 and guitar at 18. At primary school he joined the Sandton Marching Band, in which he played the snare drum. In high school he formed a school band with three other friends. By 1998 they were getting serious about music, but were forced to part company when one of the members changed schools. Shortly after, Edwin formed a new band with his older brother Wayne, younger brother Craig, and Michael, one of the members of the original band. The new band, LMJ was named after the song Little Miss Jealousy, written by Wayne. LMJ quickly became popular by playing many live gigs, and won a number of competitions, one of which led to the opportunity to record a two-track demo CD. This was completed in the winter of 2001, and was produced with the help of a popular band in South Africa called Mean
