Perhaps known as the frontman of Sunfruits and as the drummer for Jade Imagine, Winter McQuinn’s solo music explores psychedelic country and folk rippling with a free-ness similar to Nick Drake, Syd Barrett, Kevin Ayers and more modern 70s soft rock purveyors like Michael Rault and Drugdealer. His impressive 2021 debut album ‘A Rabble Of Bees’ marked the beginning of Winnie’s solo wanderings, showcasing his songwriting talents and DIY inventiveness. Just as a rabble of real bees all move separately on their own journeys but work together for the same goal, each song has its own story and trajectory that winds up in the same place. The album saw support from New Commute, Beat Magazine, Raven Sings The Blues, Reverb Is For Lovers, and more and was described as “psychedelic pop that draws on ‘60s flower-power that comes pollinated with dashes of 21st Century environmentalism and political awareness.” Shindig Magazine (UK, 2021) The live band affectionately referred to as The Garden Gnomes includes a conveyor belt of amazing musicians including Acacia Coates (Pinch Points) Jack Kinder and Lewis Mosley from Sydney based Hot Apple Band and Elena Jones from Sunfruits. With recent supports including Nice Biscuit, Baby Cool, Velvet Trip and appearances at festivals including Festival Of Sails and Bush Music Festival, Winter McQuinn’s next solo venture promises to follow on from where he left off with Rabble Of Bees except this time with a more focused and refined approach into 70s soft rock and folk.
