Crunch and shimmer, shadow and flame. Wittenberg is at its core a story-telling band, raising the roof beams with sounds taken from 90s grr, Scottish and Greek folk, with more than a touch of melodic goth. Wittenberg is driven by Hobart based poet and songwriter Grae Miles, whose deep vocals and cutting guitar throw you into places that are, while still familiar, sometimes disconcerting. And then there is the sweet embrace of indie rock and Steve May’s sleek and chorus-drenched bass to hold the line and comment on the action from below. Some electronic drums. Always the tale.
