When Woody Campfire placed second at the recent Australian National Busking Championships, he was stoked. After years of playing street corners, pubs and festivals around the country, he'd finally scored recognition as "Australia's 2nd Best Busker." Not the *best* busker, mind. Of course he's got musical chops, but Woody’s shows are more about a wild kinda bush showmanship than being technically precise. He stirs up audiences until they’re not just listening to his music, they’re leaning in, laughing hard and singing along. There’s a fun kinda chaos to it that reminds folks of troublemakers like the Doug Anthony Allstars, Norman Gunston and the Violent Femmes. Woody’s music is rooted in the dinkum storytelling tradition of Slim Dusty, John Williamson and classic Aussie bush balladeers. He brings to that tradition his playful larrakin punk energy and the unusual yarns he’s picked up in his time as a queer bushman. He rarely stays put for long. He spends most of his time away from his home in WA, as a roaming troubador. On top of his busy travelling schedule of his own shows, he’s thrived at festivals including Woodford Folk Festival, Tamworth Country Music Festival and on the fringe festival circuit. From small towns to big city crowds, he’s a knack with winning folks over and getting them riled up. Woody Campfire’s debut acoustic LP "Australia's 2nd Best Busker" has just been released, which will be followed in 2026 with a more fully produced LP. So pull up a camp chair, crack open a drink and hold on... it's gonna be a helluva show.
