Born out of the depths of rural New Zealand, Wretched Skinny began life as a high school band. Slowly they gathered a loyal following in their hometown, surviving tough crowds that were more used to Death metal and hardcore than the blend of punk grunge and pop that the cleverdick school boys played. Wretched Skinny self released several tapes, the most notable being "Post no Bills", and the single "Psychedelic Fantasies" on 7" vinyl before the band fractured. While Dylan the bass player moved to the UK, the two remaining members Dan and Del made the move to Wellington. Wretched Skinny continued to gather a following before the band made a move to Melbourne and was eventually disbanded. Recently the band in its original lineup has used the internet to reform, record and generally muck about. They played two shows in Melbourne in 2010. Del is still based in Melbourne, Dylan in Perth and Dan in Wellington.
