York St is the newest 10-armed monster to emerge from the Brisbane rock scene. Initially formed at the end of 2000, under the guise of Starling, founding members Alex Jenkins (vocals & keyboard) & Craig Chunk Brown (vocals & guitar) formed the band as a side project to their studies at QUT. Evolving with several member changes over the years, the band picked up drummer Guy Edmonds and guitarist Damian Hoo via acquaintances and chance meetings through the Brisbane scene. Now based in Sydney, the band went through a final identity change in 2004 to both pick up a bass player Simon Wideaur (also of Springfield) and to then finally settle on the band name York St. Whilst every band these days lays claims to being the bastard offspring of one successful band and another, York St may just buck this trend by actually proving its comparisons true.
