A Launceston open mic night in 2008 sparked one of the town's most promising up-and-coming acoustic acts - Yyan and McDougall. Multi-instrumentalist/vocalist Yyan Ng and bassist/vocalist Andrew McDougall are giving the delicate art of song writing new life as they continually push themselves through new musical boundaries. The duo's partnership has quickly gained popularity in Tasmania and is gaining reputation as one of North's most professional live performing duos. Supporting shows for the two have included nationally renowned blues and roots guitarist Mike Ellrington, Tasmanian swamp blues legends Guthrie and Launceston electro-pop rockers Small City Lights. They have also been paired with the delicate operatic waves of Chinese performer Xiao Xia Jiangin during her Tasmanian East Meets West recital. Their grasp of musical textures and compositional technique is relayed through a range of instruments, including percussion and the refreshing timbre of the Japanese shakuhachi
