ZIPPERHEAD is an alternative rapper and singer from Brisbane, Australia. From the south western suburb Inala, the artist of Vietnamese heritage creates songs that paint vivid imagery of his experiences, with brash, punk and even metal influences through the lens of Hip Hop/Rap. He draws inspiration from artists such as J Cole, Mac Miller, $uicideBoy$ and many more. Short handing to Zip, his style is versatile and eclectic, putting a lucid focus on his love of making self described ‘Lit Rap’, and ‘Spooky Melodic Singing’ songs. From crooning softly over guitar backings to distorted 808’s, ZIPPERHEAD’s sound is hard to peg into a single box, which is as off kilter as his stage name (a racial slur referring to people of East Asian descent, coined by US soldiers during the Korean and Vietnam Wars). A sense of ownership and conviction comes from ‘taking back’ the name, which is heard in the often harsh under tones of his lyrics. He is determined to build up the music community.
